Obituary of Stanley D. Hartsock

Stanley D. Hartsock age 75 of 231 N. Augusta Ave. Apartment # 2, Oxford died on Friday, September 10, 2004 at his home in Oxford following a long illness. Funeral services will at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 15, 2004 at the Oxford United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Hummer Hartsock Cemetery, rural Iowa City. Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 14, 2004 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Gay and Ciha Oxford Chapel. In Lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Iowa City Hospice. Stanley Dale Hartsock was born the third of nine children on February 6, 1929 near Hills, Iowa the son of Ernest and Clarice Glider Hartsock. At a young age his family moved to the Oxford. He attended rural schools and married Betty J. Wehde on December 26, 1959. Stanley worked as a farmer until the age of twenty nine when he went to work for Amanna Refrigeration retiring in 1988. For more than thirty years he was a member of the Moose Lodge in Cedar Rapids. Stanley loved kids and people; he was famous for his line “can I ask you something”. He held the unofficial title as the greeter of Oxford. If he didn’t know you, he would ask your name, where you were from and your parent’s name. His family includes his brothers, Ernest and wife, Gerri Hartsock of Brighton, Iowa, Charles and wife, Bernice Hartsock of Norway, Iowa, Darrell and wife, Sarah Hartsock of Clarksville, Tennessee, Bob and wife, Elaine Hartsock of Oregon, John Hartsock of Willow Springs, Missouri, a Sister, Laura and husband, Maynard Poggenpohl of North Liberty, and his care giver and friend Pepper Ryan of Oxford along with numerous nieces and nephews . He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Betty in 1995, a brother Lawrence and a sister Carol. The Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Stanley’s family and his services.
