Obituary of Godfrey F. Jindrich

Godfrey F. Jindrich, age 83, of North Liberty died on Saturday, December 18, 2004 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, December 21, 2004 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Oxford. Burial with military rites will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be on Monday from 3:00 to 7:00 pm with a prayer service at 7:00 pm at the church in Oxford. Memorials may be given to Iowa City Hospice, online condolences may be sent for family through our website at www.gayandciha.com. Godfrey Frank Jindrich was born on March 28, 1921 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa the son of Frank and Eleanor Divisek Jindrich. That year they moved to a farm near North Liberty. Godfrey lived on that farm until he retired in 1986 and he and Ruth moved to North Liberty. Godfrey graduated from Tiffin High School in 1940. He rode a horse to school for four years traveling in his words about 9000 miles. On May 17, 1944 he married Mae Korab in Cedar Rapids. Following Mae death in 1984 he married Ruth Merrifield on April 12, 1986. Godfrey was a life long farmer and was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Oxford, North Liberty Legion Post 1976, the Oxford American Legion, DAV, Catholic Order of Forrester’s and the Green Castle Tractor Pullers Association. For many years he enjoyed barbequing food for weddings and receptions along with butchering for neighbors and friends. His family includes a son, David Jindrich and wife, Ladonna of North Liberty, a brother, Emil Jindrich of North Liberty, two nieces, Delores Hawkins of Robins, Donna Swenka of North Liberty, two nephews, Robert and wife Joan Jindrich of West Branch, Lawrence Jindrich of Kirkland Washington and one a sister in-law, Rose Wenman of Iowa City Godfrey was preceded in death by his parents, two wives’s, Mae in 1984 and Ruth in 2000 and a brother, Leo. The Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Godfrey’s family and his services.
