Obituary of Gary J. Wilson

Gary J. Wilson age 56 of Iowa City died following a short illness on Monday, January 12, 2004 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 16, 2004 at the Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, burial will be at the St. Joseph Cemetery, Iowa City. Visitation will be on Thursday from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Iowa City. Memorials contributions may be given to the Gary Wilson Memorial Fund, online condolences may be sent to his family at www.gayandciha.com. Gary Joseph Wilson was born on September 18, 1947 in Iowa City the son of Edward and Mary Reha Wilson. His early years were spent on the farm near West Liberty until his parents bought the Park Motel in Coralville. He graduated from Clear Creek High School in 1965. Gary worked at Sheller Globe and operated a salvage yard for a number of years. Most recently he owed Wilson Lawn Care Service which he operated with his wife. Gary had a passion for Cub Cadet Tractors and Edsel cars. He and his father had many Edsels throughout the years. His family will always remember his ability to fix and build anything. He was always willing to help others. Gary loved NASCAR and was a Dale Earnhart fan. His family includes his wife, Maralyn of Iowa City, daughter, Mary Wilson of West Des Moines, step-children, Herb and wife, Sandra Alford of Iowa City, Jeff and wife, Luella Alford of Winterset, Susie Brecht of Marengo, brothers, Jerry and wife, Joyce Wilson of Atalissa, Denny and wife Sheila, Wilson of Anamosa, nine grandchildren, his mother-in-law, Mary Johnson of Cedar Rapids along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Michael. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Gary's family and his services.
