Obituary of Ruth L. Lininger

Ruth L. Lininger, age 89 of North Liberty died Sunday, August 1, 2004, at her home following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 7, 2004, at the First United Methodist Church in North Liberty with the Reverend Alecia Williams officiating. Burial at Ridgewood Cemetery in North Liberty. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, and after 12 noon Saturday until services at the church. Memorial donations can be made in Ruth’s memory to Iowa City Hospice or First United Methodist Church of North Liberty. Ruth LaVelle Blankenship was born December 20, 1914, in rural Wright County, Iowa the daughter of Thomas Walter and Rose Ella Jane (Boyington) Blankenship. She married Ervin Francis Lininger on February 11, 1937, in Grundy Center, Iowa. Ruth and Ervin farmed in the North Liberty area for over forty-two years before moving to town in 1981. She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in North Liberty, Whip- Poor- Will Club, and the Nathaniel Fellows Chapter of DAR. Ruth and Ervin enjoyed traveling across the United States to see their family. Family was always so very important to her and her to them. Her family includes her daughter and husband, Virginia Ann and Richard Mohr of Potomac, MD; her sons, Lloyd L. Lininger and his wife, Jonna of Sarasota, FL, Melvin W. Lininger of San Luis Obispo, CA, and Neil E. Lininger and his wife, Jeraldine of Fallon, NV; thirteen grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren; and dear friend, Vernon Detert of North Liberty. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Ervin on June 27, 1989; a brother, Marion Blankenship, and a granddaughter, Mary Jo Lininger.
