Obituary of Raymond D. Bigelow

Raymond D. Bigelow, age 80 of rural Oxford, died Friday, February 6, 2004 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 11, 2004, at the Grace United Methodist Church in Tiffin with the Reverend Christina Sung officiating. Burial will be at the Oak Hill Cemetery, rural Tiffin. There will be a reception following the services at the cemetery back at the church. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday at the Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Memorial donations can be made in Ray’s memory to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association. Online condolences may be sent for Ray’s family through our website @www.gayandciha.com. Raymond Dean Bigelow was born October 30, 1923, in Iowa City the son of Oscar and Geneve (Weekes) Bigelow. He graduated from Tiffin High School. Attended college while serving in the United States Army during WWII prior to being stationed in Europe. On June 16, 1946, he married Patricia Ann Edwards in Iowa City. For a number of years Ray worked as a farmer and carpenter, later he worked in the construction field as a supervisor for the L.L. Pelling Company. His family includes two sons and their wives, Daniel and JoAnne Bigelow of Franklin, TN and Richard and Rita Bigelow of Ankeny, IA; son-in-law, Robert Stoner of Newnan, GA; five grandchildren, Stephanie and her husband, David Getz; Erik Bigelow and his wife, Jennifer, Nathan Stoner, Adam Stoner, and Jennifer Bigelow; four great-grandchildren, Alli Getz, Lauren Getz, Ryan Getz, and Colin Bigelow; brothers, Leslie Bigelow and his wife, Verna of Iowa City, James Bigelow and his wife, Joyce of Iowa City, and Donald Bigelow of Marshalltown, IA. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Patricia on June 30, 2000, his daughter, Janice Stoner on December 28, 2002; and a grandson, Damon Stoner. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City and Oxford is caring for Ray’s family and his services.
