Obituary of Katherine apos;Katy' Anna Kruse

Katherine “Katy” Anna Kruse, age 80 of Iowa City died Monday, June 7, 2004 at her home following a sudden illness. A celebration of life gathering will be at 7p.m. Monday, June 14, 2004 at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City with the Reverend Judy Gingerich officiating. There will be an hour of visitation prior to the services, and a reception at the funeral home to follow the services. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Katy’s memory to Iowa City Hospice or the School of Social Work through the University of Iowa Foundation. True to Katy’s passion for learning and her love for students, she has gifted her earthly remains to the University Of Iowa Department Of Anatomy. Katherine Anna Kruse was born March 15, 1924 in Munising, MI, the daughter of Carl and Katherine (Euler) Kruse. She graduated from Lisbon, Iowa High School in 1941, received her BA degree in Social Work from the University of Iowa in 1945, and her Master’s degree from Washington University in St. Louis, MO in 1953. Her career began in 1953 as a social worker at the University of Iowa Hospitals, in 1956 she moved to the University of Iowa School of Social Work where she retired as Associate Professor in 1988. She was a charter member of Iowa City Hospice, having served as president; member of Goodwill Industries, serving as president and board member; and one of Iowa’s most faithful Hawkeye Football Fans! Her family of friends includes her dearest lifetime friend, Thelma Hand; her children of the heart, Kristina Corlette, Jill Corlette, and Gordon Corlette and his fiancé, Allison Frank, and many nieces and nephews, friends, and hundreds of former students. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and a sister.
