Obituary of Leo K. Stratton

Leo Stratton, age 76 of rural Oxford, died Sunday, July 17, 2005 at his home following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 20, 2005, at the Oxford United Methodist Church with the Reverend Diane Townsley officiating. Burial will be at the Oxford Cemetery, Visitation will be from 3 to 7pm Tuesday at the church. In Lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Leo’s memory. Online condolences may be sent for Leo’s family through our website @www.gayandciha.com. Leo Kenneth Stratton was born February 7, 1929 in Iowa City the son of Fred and Anna (Wagner) Stratton. He married Betty R. Peterson February 7, 1951. During the Korean Conflict Leo served in the United States Army. Upon returning from the service, Leo continued his life work in farming. He was born and raised on a farm near where he and Betty farmed since 1954. For many of these years, they raised many hogs and heads of cattle. He was a member of the Oxford American Legion, and the Farm Bureau. Leo’s love of his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren was felt by all. His love of the farm was lifelong, he enjoyed tractor pulls, playing cards, and sharing a good joke with anyone that would listen. His family includes his wife, Betty; three sons, David Stratton of Walcott, Jeff Stratton and his wife, Dea of Homestead, and Mike Stratton and his wife, Brenda of Homestead; daughter-in-law, Deborah Stratton of Oxford; grandchildren, Tammy Banwart and her husband, Roger, Travis Stratton and his wife, Suzanne, Josh Stratton and his wife, Michelle, Tonya Wehrle and her husband, Jim, Jay Stratton and his wife, Peggy, Stephanie Stratton, Alicia Stratton, and Jason Stratton; great-grandchildren, Lydia, Noah, Cade, Karsyn, Olivia, Ayden, Kassidy, Amiah, Brenner, Nick, and Kirsten; three brothers, Earl Stratton and his wife, Eleanor of Tiffin, Wayne Stratton and his wife, Jani of Tiffin, and Charles Stratton and his wife, Nancy of Botherl, WA; two sisters, Zola Weldon of Walker, IA, and Eylene McCormock and her husband, Bill of Huntington Beach, CA Leo was preceded in death by his parents, son, Douglas; and one sister, Lois Stratton.
