Obituary of Everett G. Sherman

Everett Gerald “Jerry” Sherman, age 78 of 802 6th. Avenue, Coralville died at his home Wednesday, December 15, 2004. At his request, no services are planned. Cremation services were provided by Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, his family asked that memorial donations be made in Jerry’s memory to Iowa City Hospice. Online condolences may be sent for his family through our website @www.gayandciha.com. Jerry was born May 28, 1926, in Des Moines, Iowa. During WWII Jerry served in the United States Navy as an Electricians Mate Second Class. Serving on battleships USS LCI, USS Logan, and USS Antietam in the battles in Iwo Jima, Okinawa and Saipan. Following his discharge from active duty, he remained in the reserves until 1955. He married Adeline Elizabeth Lindstrom on May 28, 1948. For over fifty years, he owned and operated Coralville Roofing. He held a commercial pilot’s license and flight instructor rating. Jerry was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Shiners. His family includes a daughter and her husband, Dawn and John Oxley of Coralville; and two grandchildren, Jeremy Willis and Caleb Sherman both of Coralville. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Adeline in 2002, son, Rory in 1983, and an infant son, Jerry and infant daughter, Rene.
