Obituary of Cecil L. Miller
His family includes his wife, Dessel; two sons and their wives, Keith L. Miller and Debra Scott-Miller of Iowa City, and Carlan D. and Rebecca Miller of Iowa City; grandchildren, Greg and Ellyn Miller; and a brother and his wife, Orval and Rovona Miller of Wellman. Cecil was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Helen Yoder.
Cecil Lester Miller was born May 25, 1924, in rural Johnson County, Iowa the son of Melvin F. and Mary (Yoder) Miller. During World War II, he served his country in the United States Army. On October 1, 1949, Cecil married Dessel P. Yoder in Davenport, Iowa. Cecil started employment with Blackman Decorators in 1947, the next year he became an owner, which he was until his retirement in 1989.
He was a member of Congregational United Church of Christ in Iowa City, American Legion, and a charter and lifetime member of the Elks Club. Cecil loved to golf, fish, watch any of the Iowa Hawkeye sporting events, and most of all being with his grandchildren, and family.
