Obituary of Richard L. Vanderlinden
Richard L. Vanderlinden, age 72 of 703 South Clinton Street, Iowa City died Saturday, November 8, 2003 following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 12, 2003, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City with the Reverend Dave Bonselaar officiating. Burial with military honors will be held at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be after 1pm Wednesday until services. Following the services at the cemetery there will be a reception for family and friends back at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established in Richards memory. Richard Lee Vanderlinden was born May 2, 1931, in Bloomfield, Iowa the son of Marion E. and Eva I. (White) Vanderlinden. He graduated from Troy, Iowa High School in 1949. During the Korean Conflict Richard served in the United States Army. While living in the Bloomfield area he farmed and was a carpenter by trade. Upon moving to the Iowa City area nearly twenty-five years ago he used his gifts and talents to be a property manager for a number of rental complexes here. He also has had a treasured working relationship with the Thomas Lasansky family of Iowa City. As a master carpenter, he shared his skills working in their home and through their art works. As Richards daughters were growing up he was there supporting them in school and team sports that they were involved with. He was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, especially fond of the Womens Basketball Program and Mens Football Team. His family includes his two daughters and their husbands, Susan and Tom Ballard of Altoona, Iowa, and Kalyn and Larry Duke of Santee, CA; grandchildren, Alisha Tjaden, Zachary, Anna, and Mary Ballard, and Matthew Ballard and his wife, Jean; two great-grandchildren; brother and his wife, Robert and Jackie Vanderlinden of Pella; and special companion, Marilyn Vanderlinden of Coralville.
