Obituary of Esther Segrid Rogers

Esther Segrid Rogers, 95 of the Solon Nursing Care Center and formerly of 320 East Washington Street, Iowa City, died Thursday, August 21, 2003 at the care center of natural causes. Esther Segrid Cederquist was born in Boone County, Iowa on May 26, 1908, to Attorney C.J. Cedquist and Clara (Bork) Cederquist. She attended school in Madrid, Iowa; Augustana College of Nursing in Chicago; and completed her postgraduate work at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. She married Vernon E. Rogers on May 24, 1937, in Madrid, Iowa. They made their home in Iowa City. She worked in the Urology Department of the University Hospitals after their marriage. She and her husband then owned and operated the Rogers Nursing Home for twelve years beginning in 1950. She moved to the Solon Nursing Care Center in 1998. Esther was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Vernon in 1978; and a sister, Teckla Olson in 1989. Her family includes two sisters, Dr. Dena Cederquist of Palm Harbor, Florida, and Ruth Larson of Des Moines. Two sons, Larry John Rogers and his wife, Sherry of Laramie, Wyoming; and their four children, Tim Rogers and his wife, Marilyn and their two children, Jacob and Chloe all of Ft. Collins, Colorado; Teri Rogers and her husband, Don Kappes of Chicago; Trent Rogers and his wife, Deb of Loveland, Colorado, and Tami Rogers of Brush, Colorado. James “Jim” Ceder Rogers and his wife, Dawn C. Rogers of Iowa City; their two children, Lisa Rogers Hebl and her husband, Dennis, and their three daughters, Jamie and Brittany Hebl all of Coralville, and Melanie Hebl of Iowa City and special friend, Nathan Robe of Coralville; Stacey Rogers Lingel and her children, Allison and Mindy of Coralville. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, August 23, 2003 at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, with burial at the Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. Saturday until services. At Esther’s request, her casket will be closed. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Solon Nursing Care Center.
