Obituary of Marcia Colleen Arends

Marcia Colleen Arends, age 66 of 513 5th. Avenue, Iowa City died Saturday, June 26, 2004 following a series of illnesses. Funeral services will be held 7p.m. Tuesday, June 29, 2004, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Family graveside services will take place at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 5 to 7pm Tuesday at the funeral home. A reception will follow the Tuesday evening services at the funeral home. Memorial donations can be made in her memory to the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Department of the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. For a number of years the staff and doctors of this department were like family to her not only in the care they provided, but also in the love and support they gave so freely to her and to all that received their care. Marcia Colleen Bell was born September 6, 1937, in Iowa City the daughter of Robert John and Doris (Berns) Bell. She graduated from Iowa City City High School. On June 29, 1958, she married Joseph John Taddonio in New York. The couple lived in New York for a number of years before returning to Iowa City. For many years, she owned and operated Johnson County Abstract. She also worked in several retail businesses in Iowa City, retiring from Randall’s Grocery Store. Her husband Joseph died in October of 1974. She later married Delbert Arends on August 13, 1976 in Sac City. She was a member of the Moose Lodge. Her family and friends knew this very dear person who loved to cook, host family and friends in her home for food, fun, and a friendly card game. Her family includes two daughters and their husbands, Mary Jo and Brett Mohr of Iowa City, and Maureen and Russ Harrison of Columbus Junction; one son and his wife, Tony and Jackie Taddonio of South Amboy, NJ; nine grandchildren, Joey, Ryan, Kelsey, Michael, Vinney, Nicky,Ricky, Cody, and Billy; a brother and his wife, Thomas and Jackie Bell of Iowa City, and her companion and caregiver, Delbert Arends. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters, Glenda Lyle and Gloria O’Hara. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Services is caring for Marcia’s family and her services.
