Obituary of Lester Charles Safley
Lester Charles Safley, age 54 of Iowa City died Wednesday, June 29, 2005, from injuries received when his motorcycle was struck by a tractor-trailer near Tipton in Cedar County. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 5, 2005, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City with the Reverend Judy Gingerich officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 1pm until services on Tuesday at the funeral home. Lester Charles Safley was born March 29, 1951, in Iowa City, the son of Foster M. and Ruth (Steffensen) Safley. He graduated from West Liberty High School in 1970, and had attended post high classes in Minnesota and Kirkwood Community College. Lester enjoyed the outdoors, collecting antiques, riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, but most of all he loved his three daughters and grandchildren. His family includes daughters, Vicki Miller and her husband, Broderick of Cedar Rapids, Anne Prigge and her husband, Jeremiah of Attura, MN, and Erica Safley and Dan Peterson of North Liberty; six grandchildren, Chloe, Aiden, Cailea, Brittany, Abbigail, and Cassandra; sisters, Ruth Ann Champagne of Iowa City, brother, Mark Safley of Iowa City, and a niece, Luci Champagne of Iowa City. He was preceded in death by his parents. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City is caring for his family and services.
