Obituary of Violet Farmer Dalton

Violet Farmer Dalton, age 87 formerly of Oxford, died Saturday, December 3, 2005 at the Colonial Manor Care Center in the Amanas. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, December 7, 2005, at the Oxford United Methodist Church with the Reverend Diane Townsley officiating. Burial will be at the Oxford Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Tuesday at the church. Memorial donations can be made to the American Heart Association in Violet’s memory. Online condolences may be sent for her family through our website @www.gayandciha.com. Violet Louise Palmer was born August 8, 1918, at Ottumwa, Iowa the daughter of John and Mary (Plum) Palmer. She attended country school near Blakesburg, Iowa. On November 1, 1937 she married Eugene L. Farmer in Shreveport, LA. Eugene died in September of 1943. On October 23, 1950 she married Carl Dalton in Iowa City. He later died in November of 1987. For many years Violet was employed by the United States Postal Service, first in Oxford, than in Iowa City until her retirement. She was a member of the Oxford Federated Church and a member of the Rebekah Lodge for over fifty years. Violet enjoyed her work with the postal system, especially enjoying the contact with the public, but the one thing that brought her the greatest joy was family at the holidays, she loved everyone being together. Her family includes, daughter, Jean O’Connor and her husband, Bernard of Mundelein, IL; sons, William “Bill” Farmer and his wife, Sheila of Iowa City, and Stanley Farmer and his wife, Jean of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Michael O’Connor and his wife, Tanya, Kelly Wisnewski and her husband, Robert, Michelle Farmer and Terry Funk, Mark Farmer and his wife, Heather,Stacy Sablan and her husband, Anthony, and Shane Farmer and his wife, Amanda; great-grandchildren, Lucas and Nicholas O’Connor, RJ and Kylie Wisnewski, and Ella Jean Sablan; and numerous nieces and nephews. Violet was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, sister, Mary Ritter; and six brothers, Charles, Walter, Nathan, Edward, Roy, and John Palmer.
