Obituary of Bernadette A. Rebal

Bernadette A. “Bernie” Rebal, age 81 of 416 2nd. Avenue, Iowa City died Sunday, November 14, 2004, peacefully at her home surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 17, 2004 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Iowa City with the Reverend Rudy Juarez officiating. Family committal services will be held at St. Bridget’s Cemetery at Nolan Settlement, rural Johnson County. Visitation will be from 3 to 7pm Tuesday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City where a parish vigil service will be held at 7pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Iowa City Hospice. Online condolences may be sent for Bernie’s family through our website @www.gayandciha.com. Bernie was born April 30, 1923, at Nolan Settlement, Johnson County, Iowa the daughter of James and Margaret (McCraith) Ryan. She graduated from St. Patrick’s High School in 1941. On October 7, 1946, she married Leonard J. Rebal at St. Bridget’s Church at Nolan Settlement. Not only did she raise her family, but she also worked as the clerk of police court for the Iowa City Police Department, worked for Henry Louis Camera Shop, Senior Center-Meals on Wheels Program, the Alzheimer’s Foundation, and in the lunchroom at Robert Lucas Elementary School. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, and County Johnson Irish. She enjoyed her trips to Ireland, dinners and movies with her family and friends, bus trips, and “going to the boat”. Her family and friends will remember her as one who loved life. Her family includes daughters, Judy Howard and her husband, Gene of Iowa City, Pam Seydel and her husband, Dave, of Iowa City and JoAnn Rebal of Kerrville, TX; son, Lenny Rebal and his wife, Ann of Iowa City; seven grandchildren,, Luke Potratz, Greyson Howard, Nathan Howard, Pat Seydel, Jamie Seydel, Heather White, and Stacy Rebal; seven great-grandchildren, Tylyn, Katlyn, Hayden, Hallie, Olivia, Kendel, and Jared. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a sister, Ellen Marschek.
