Obituary of Veral J. Leaman
Veral J. Leaman, age 67 of 24 Barrington Place, Iowa City died at her home Monday, February 13, 2006. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m., Thursday, February 16, 2006, at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Iowa City with the Reverend Kyle Otterbein officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7pm Wednesday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Verals memory to Iowa City Hospice. Online condolences may be sent for her family through our website @www.gayandciha.com. Veral Jane (Steele) Leaman was born September 22, 1938, in Waverly, Iowa the daughter of Virgil E. and Neva N. (Fassett) Steele. Following graduation from high school in Waterloo, she attended and graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in 1960 with BA degree in education. On August 12, 1961 she married Donald Leaman in Waterloo. The couple lived in Newton after they were married until moving to Iowa City in 1968. For a number of years she taught music, and for over forty years has given piano lessons. She was a member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, Sigma Alpha Iota Honorary Music Society, Music Study Club of Iowa City, and the Piano Club. She was one of the founders and organizers of the Iowa City Piano Teachers Association, who continue to have annual spring competitions for many of their students each year. Her family includes her husband, Donald; daughters and their husbands, Donna and Jeff Aubrey of Plano, TX, and Ellen and Reverend Dr. Tim Stidham of Dyer, IN; grandchildren, Ryan Aubrey, Brandon Aubrey, Sarah Stidham, and Rachel Stidham; a sister, Joyce E. Siddens of Waterloo; and Verals mother-in-law, Susie Leaman of Waterloo. She was preceded in death by her parents.
