Obituary of John M. Brogaard

John M. Brogaard, age 89 of rural Oxford died peacefully at his home Wednesday, December 1, 2004. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, December 4, 2004, at the United Methodist Church in Oxford with the Reverend Diane Townsley officiating. Burial will be at the Oxford Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8pm Friday at the church in Oxford. A memorial fund has been established in his memory. Online condolences may be sent for John’s family through our website @www.gayandciha.com. John was born May 18, 1915, in Iowa City, the son of Martin and Nellie (Stagg) Brogaard. On June 20, 1943, he married Dorothy Mae Fankhauser at the First United Methodist Church in Iowa City. As a lifelong farmer, he and Dorothy farmed near Oxford for many years. His love of farming was obvious in caring for his land, raising Herford cattle, hogs, turkeys, and his horses. He was a Vigortone Feeds Dealer, Kaltenburg Seeds Dealer, and active in organic farming before it’s time with his representing Supergrow Fertilizer to area farmers. John was a member of the Oxford Methodist Church, Iowa City Moose Lodge, Drill Team,the American Paint Horse Association and a former 4-H leader. This gentle man was always willing to help a stranger and his neighbors. He loved the outdoors, enjoying hunting and of course his favorite, fishing! His family includes his children, Judi Brogaard of Oxford, Debbie Westcott and her husband, Bob of Iowa City, Gary Brogaard and his wife, Diana of Moorcroft, WY; Jody Brogaard and his wife, Joan of Cold Springs, MN, and Torrie Masko and her husband, Chuck of Swisher; grandchildren, Tami Wissink and her husband, DeWayne Molyneux; Lynnette Wissink, Amanda Gatrelle and her husband, Richard, Michael Wissink, Rob Brogaard and his wife, Joanne, Lana Riley and her husband, John, Heather Petsche and her husband, Don, Vicki Odaffer and her husband, Glenn, Donnie VonLeinen, Brooke Brogaard, Brett Brogaard, Angie Olson and her husband, Tom, and Jamie Russell and her husband, Jay; twenty-two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Anna Bulechek of Iowa City. John was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy in July of 1965, an infant brother, and a sister, Agnes Smith.
