Obituary of Helen S. Griffin
Her family includes her husband, Linus of over seventy years; daughter and her husband, Mary Ann and Robert Frees of Iowa City; grandchildren, Debra and her husband, Donald Kabela of Solon, and David and his wife, Naomi Steinbrech of Solon; three great-great grandchildren, David Brown, Monica Steinbrech and Molly Jo Steinbrech. Her parents, a sister, Alma and an infant daughter preceded her in death.
Helen Sedlacek Griffin was born October 2, 1907 on the family century farm where she has resided all of her life, the daughter of Frank and Mary (Dvorsky) Sedlacek. She attended the county one room schoolhouse in Big Grove Township, of Johnson County, Iowa. She married Linus J. Griffin April 19, 1933. Helen has been a General Agent of National Catholic Society of Foresters since 1963 until the present; where she was a member since 1938.
She was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Iowa City, Altar and Rosary Society in Solon, served as President for the Iowa Fraternal Congress in 1974 for two years, past president of the Davenport Association of Iowa D.C.C.W., and as president for St. Mary Magdalene Court 635 in Solon for over fifty-seven years.
A memorial fund has been established in Helens memory.
