Obituary of Catherine apos;Kitty&apos Lyddon

Catherine “Kitty” Lyddon, age 84 formerly of 2430 Bradford Drive, Iowa City died Thursday, May 13, 2004, at Atrium Village in Hills, Iowa following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 17, 2004, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City with Sister Agnes Giblin and Reverend Judy Gingerich officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 6pm Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials donations can be made in Kitty’s memory to Iowa City Hospice or Mercy Home Health Care, c/o Mercy Hospital, Iowa City. Catherine A. McManus was born September 13, 1919, in Poteau, Oklahoma, the daughter of Charles and Goldie (Purvis) McManus. She graduated from high school in St. Louis, MO, and on September 7, 1940, she married Ralph Tucker. Ralph died serving his country during World War II. In 1951, she moved to Iowa City where her brothers were in business. Kitty married Bernard “Bernie” Lyddon on January 28, 1956, in Iowa City. For over twenty-three years, Kitty worked in the business office of the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, retiring in 1981. Bernie died December 7, 1993. Kitty enjoyed much, working with many good people at the University Hospitals, traveling with Bernie all across this country, spending winters in Florida, fishing with family and friends, and volunteering with Mercy Home Health Care. Those that knew Kitty knew a very generous and loyal friend, one that loved her family very much, and would do anything for them. Her family includes her daughter-in-law, Dayle Tucker of Iowa City, grandchildren and their spouses, Brad and Connie Tucker of Cedar Rapids, and Holly and Adam Riss of North Liberty; great-grandchildren, Coleman, Cate, Anna and Joe; sister-in-law, Jean McManus of Mitchellville, Iowa; four nephews and special dear friends, Jack and Goldie Royston of Iowa City. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, son, Bill Tucker; infant daughter, Jayne, and three brothers. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Kitty’s family and her services.
