Obituary of Lori Ann Hilmer

Lori A. Hilmer, 48 of North Liberty died Saturday, June 21, 2014, at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids surrounded by her family, following a passionate fight against cancer. Funeral services will be held at 5 pm Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at First United Methodist Church in North Liberty, with burial to follow at Ridgewood Cemetery in North Liberty. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services, and a time of fellowship and refreshments will be held at the church following the services at the cemetery. Lori Ann Nolton was born November 23, 1965, in Forest City, Iowa the daughter of David E. and Dorothy R. (Farrow) Nolton. Following graduation from Forest City High School in 1984, she attended Waldorf College in Forest City before transferring to the University of Iowa. Here she received her BS and later her Master's Degree in Social Work. Her career began at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, and later took her to the Grant Wood Area Education Agency. Lori married Todd W. Hilmer on September 21, 1991 in Forest City. The couple made their home in the Iowa City area since then, raising their three children; active in their activities, supporting their church, and she was a strong advocate of the Food Pantry through their church. Lori was an avid reader, and proud to be a cancer survivor. Her family includes her husband, Todd; their children, Nick, Ben and Rebecca all at home; her parents, David and Dorothy Nolton of Thompson, IA; brothers, Brian Nolton (Vicki) of Grinnell; and Tom Nolton (Roberta) of Forest City; sister, Cathy Hughes (Jeff) of Thompson, IA; nieces and nephews, Danica, Kendra, Jacob, Hannah, Morgan, Karri, Jason and Sam; and one great-niece, Maddison.
