Obituary of Katherine E. Lindley

Katherine E. “Betty” Lindley, age 85 of 1799 5th. Street, Coralville, died Tuesday, September 14, 2004 at Mercy Hospital of cancer. Memorial services will be held at 7pm Saturday, September 18, 2004 at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 5pm until services Saturday at the funeral home. Katherine Elizabeth Lindley was born March 27, 1919 in Hamburg, Iowa the daughter of James and Neva (thorp) Spicer. Growing up in Hamburg, she attended schools there graduating from Hamburg High School in 1937. On December 4, 1937, she married Merle Richard Lindley in Clarinda, Iowa. Their family moved to area in the 40’s building in Coralville, then moving into Iowa City where they lived until moving back to Coralville in 1983 to Coral Village. Merle died September 23, 1993. Her family includes her daughter, Joan Lindley of Coralville, two sons and their wives, Richard and Cheryl Lindley of Cedar Rapids, and Philip and Cindy Lindley of North Liberty; six grandchildren, Scott Bender, Courtney Bender, Kevan Lindley, Allison Peterson, Brian Lindley, and Kierston Lindley; seven great-grandchildren, Joel, Lillian, Emily, Ty, Mackenzie, Natalie, and Macey; one brother, James Spicer of Concord, CA. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, and a great-granddaughter, Jessica Erin.
