Obituary of Earl C. Fiagle

Earl C. Fiagle age 78 of 1818, 76th Ave. S.W. Cedar Rapids died on Saturday, February 28, 2004 at River Bend Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Muscatine. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 3, 2004, at Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial with military honors at Oak Hill Cemetery near Tiffin, Iowa. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. with Masonic Services at 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials donations may be given in Earl’s memory for Parkinson or Alzheimer’s Disease Research. Earl Charles Fiagle was born on November 9, 1925, in Tiffin the son of Charles and Gladys Gilpin Fiagle. He attended Tiffin Schools and the University of Iowa where he received a degree in history. During WWII he served in the United States Army. Following the service he married Betty Stolley on October 31, 1953, in Lone Tree. For one year he taught school and then worked as a welder for Wilson and then F.M.C. in Cedar Rapids. Following his time as welder he worked as a cook at the University of Iowa until he retired in 1993. Earl’s family will always remember him as a great collector. Friends and family often referred to him as a great collector of, clocks, rocks and chairs. After his retirement he learned to play the piano, he enjoyed wood working, his garden, crossword puzzles and nature. He was a family man who loved his grandchildren. His family includes his wife Betty of Cedar Rapids, two sons, Jeff Fiagle and partner Nick Irving of Des Moines, Mark and wife, Rosemary Fiagle of Iowa City; three grandchildren Brandon Fiagle of Cedar Falls, Bethany and Adam Fiagle of Iowa City along with his beloved dog, Tipps. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and parents. Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Earl’s family and his services.
