Obituary of William L. Potter
William L. Bill Potter, age 79 of North Liberty died at his home Tuesday, February 28, 2006, following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 3, 2006, at St. Marys Catholic Church in Iowa City with the Reverend Jeff Belger officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Thursday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City where a Loyal Order of the Moose Ritual Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. and a Parish Vigil Service at 7pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Bills memory to Amenity Hospice or North Liberty First Responders. Online condolences may be sent for his family through our website @www.gayandciha.com. William Leburn Potter was born January 17, 1927, in Iowa City, the son of William and Dorothy (Petrikin) Potter. He graduated from Iowa City City High School and had attended the University of Iowa. During World War II, Bill served his country in the Army Air Corps. On August 21, 1965, he married Clara B. Keller in Iowa City. For over thirty-two years Bill worked for Iowa Illinois Gas and Electric, now known as MidAmerican Energy. Bill was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church in Iowa City, the Loyal Order of the Moose, active in the Ritual Staff; and a member of the IBEW Union. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping and traveling with his family and friends. In years past he was a little league coach for his children. Bill loved his family, especially time with his grandchildren. His family includes his wife, Clara; children, Sheila and Hugh Cole of Phoenix, AZ, Theresa and Dean Underwood of Kansas City, MO, James and Marykathryn Potter of New Orleans, LA, Jerry and Carol Litton of Iowa City and Roger and Patricia Litton of Iowa City; grandchildren, KJ and Cassidy Kral, Nathan Cole, Brian, Andrew, Melissa, and James Litton, and Jacob Potter; great-grandchildren, Avery and Tristan; brother, Tom and Marlene Potter of Leonardtown, MD. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, George Potter. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City is caring for Bills family and his services.
