Obituary of Lorene Myers
Lorene Myers, age 80 of 201 N. First Avenue, Iowa City died at her home, Tuesday, March 14, 2006 of cancer A memorial mass will be held at 9:00 a.m., Friday, March 17, 2006, at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Iowa City with the Reverend Rudy Juarez officiating. At her request she has been cremated. Burial of her remains will be at the St. Joseph Cemetery in Iowa City, followed by a reception for family and friends at the Eagles Lodge on Hwy. 1 west in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 5 to 7pm Thursday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in her memory to Iowa City Hospice @ 1025 Wade Street, Iowa City, Iowa 52240. Lorene (Sorensen) Myers was born September 14, 1925, in Hartington, NE, the daughter of Herman and Julia (Hirschman) Sorensen. Her family moved to Iowa City where she attended St. Patricks High School graduating in 1943. On June 12, 1943, she married William Myers in Columbia, SC. For over twenty-five years Lorene was associated with Iowa State Bank & Trust Company in Iowa City retiring in 1989. She was a member of St. Patricks Catholic Church where she was also a member of the Altar & Rosary Society. Her family includes two sons, Richard Myers of Norfolk, NE; and Joel Myers and his wife, Patti of Iowa City; two daughters, Linda (Gerlits) Atkinson of Iowa City and Patricia Roe and her husband, Joe of Coralville; ten grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, two sisters, Lois Seemuth and her husband, Bob of Iowa City, and Leona Pelechek and her husband, Dick of Iowa City. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of sixty-one years, Bill; brothers, Leo, Lloyd and Larry Sorensen; sisters, Louise Powers and Lucille McGowen. Infant granddaughters, Angela Gerlits, and Annie Myers; and two sons-in-law, George Gerlits and Bob Atkinson. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Lorenes family and her services.
