Mildred Darlene Misbach was born March 6, 1916, in Sumner Township, Iowa County, Iowa, the daughter of Jesse Davis Misbach and Emelia (Wiese) Misbach. She graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1933. She graduated from the State University of Iowa with Honors and with Distinction, receiving a B.A. in English Literature on June 5, 1939. She worked for Williamsburg dentist Dr. Lewis as a dental assistant, and contemplated training as a dental hygienist, before her marriage to Chesley Johnston Posey on June 9, 1940, in Williamsburg, Iowa. The couple lived in Iowa City where Mr. Posey was Instructor in Mechanics & Hydraulics, and later Professor of Civil Engineering, at the university until they moved to Storrs, CT in 1961. In 1990 they moved to Atrium Village. Until two years ago, she spent most summers at their cabin near Estes Park, CO. Mildred was a member of the University Wives, the International Wives, the UConn Founders Society, and other university-related organizations. She enjoyed entertaining international students, especially during American holidays. She tried to make them feel at home by preparing foods reminiscent of their homelands. Mildred enjoyed gardening, hiking, natural history, and cooking.. She was well known for her bread baking, and -at least to her grandchildren-for her molasses cookies. Her family includes a son, James B. Posey and his spouse, Eileen M. Dann of Redwood Meadows, Alberta, Canada; a daughter, E. Ann Dion and her husband, Wilfred Dion of Conway, SC; four grandchildren, Julia A. (Dion) Howard, Jeremy E. Dion, Gillian H. Posey, and Alaric J. Posey; two great-grandchildren, Nathan D. Howard and Savannah A. Howard; and her sister, Shirley Buswell of Marengo Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, (9/1991); two brothers, Wiese and Myron Misbach; and three sisters, Wanda Edgerton, Ila Morse Smith, and Dorothy Misbach. Gay & Ciha Funeral Service of Hills and Iowa City is caring for Mildred's family.
