Obituary of Ethel Irene Hruby

Ethel Irene Hruby, age 98 of Oxford died Thursday, March 16, 2006, at Colonial Manor Care Center in Amana. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 18, 2006, at the Oxford United Methodist Church with the Reverend Diane Townsley officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7pm Friday at the church. Memorial donations can be made in her memory for mission work through the church. Ethel Irene Mueller Hruby was born September 7, 1907, near Oxford, Iowa the daughter of Grace Irene (Worden) Mueller and Louis Carl Mueller. She attended Oxford Schools and the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. On May 23, 1928, she married Stanley Hruby in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The couple lived in the Oxford area all their married lives. She worked for Oxford Hardware and ACT in Iowa City for a number of years. She was an active member of the Oxford United Methodist Church, Oxford Rebekah Lodge, Nemora Club, and Corona Chapter of O.E.S. in Sharon Center. Her family includes four sons and their wives, Lloyd and Marie Hruby of Oxford, Richard and Merlene Hruby of North Liberty, Ray and Shirley Hruby of Oxford, and Donald and Cille of Des Moines; son-in-law, Jim Larew of Oxford, 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Stanley; daughter, Lue Ellen Larew; brother, Eldon Mueller, and infant granddaughter and grandson.
