Obituary of Jane D. Vevera

Jane D. Vevera, age 69 of 2839 Friendship Street, Iowa City died Thursday, May 25, 2006, at Mercy Hospital following a sudden illness. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Tuesday, May 30, 2006 at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Family graveside services will be held at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. Jane was born December 3, 1936, in Iowa City the daughter of Daniel C. and Jane P. Dutcher. She attended Iowa City City High School. On July 22, 1952, she married her high school sweetheart, Robert Vevera. Over the years Jane has worked for the Iowa City Press-Citizen, University of Iowa Audio Visual Center, and most recently, ACT; along with supporting her husband and family in the family masonry business. She retired from this to spend more time with her family, tending to her gardening, and cheering on those Iowa Hawkeye’s. Jane was always the quiet strength and support beside Bob and her family. Her family includes two daughters and their husbands, Vickie and Garth Von Ahsen of Williamsburg, and Lucinda and Steve Cook of Iowa City; two sons, Mick Vevera and Steve Vevera both of Iowa City; ten grandchildren, Jane Van Zee and her husband, Brett of Des Moines, John Von Ahsen of Scottsdale, AZ, Josh Von Ahsen of Cedar Rapids, Stephanie Sanchez and her husband, David of Des Moines, Gabe Cook and his wife, Michelle of Iowa City, Luke Vevera, Jake Vevera, Andy Vevera, Jared Vevera, and Jace Vevera all of Iowa City; five great-grandchildren, Sydney and Harrison Sanchez, Ella, Gavin, and Joseph Cook; sister, Lucinda Dutcher of Oakland, CA; brother, Dan Dutcher and his wife, Barbara of Santa Anna, CA; sisters-in-law, Betty Park of El Paso, TX and Cokie Hatcher of Miami, FL; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, “Bob”; daughter, Susan Vevera; granddaughter, Ann Von Ahsen. Although Jane will be missed by her family and friends, there is great comfort in knowing that she is together again with Bob, the love of her life!
