George P. Mullally
1938 - 2014
Condolences
George was a good friend. He was an excellent cataloger, with an unsurpassed knowledge of the cataloging rules. He was a true classicist and a skilled musician.
Becky and I send our condolences and are thinking of you all. Uncle George will be missed.
I remember George as one of a few at CHS during our high school years together
there that I thought was a genuine young man. I have not kept contact with him
since, but when his obituary appeared in the St. Cloud Times, I knew deep inside
that I needed to say "good bye" by having some closing presence. Even though
he was cremated, I still somehow felt good to be there with some of the family
members I spoke with.
Patrick Kosel, another classmate and member of my current parish, St. Anthony's
in St. Cloud, happened to both be at Mass this morning and we noted George's
obituary. Patrick said:"He was one smart man!" and I agree-smart and kind and
understanding.
Sr. Susan Rudolph(former Johana Rudolph) was also a classmate with whom I
am a volunteer each Wed. at St. Benedict's Senior Community in St. Cloud. We
talked about George's obituary on Wed. when I was with her for my volunteering.
(She currently is the director of the Spiritual Care Dept. at the Senior Community.)
When I said that I had really thought George was nice, already in 1956, she said she thought so too!
May George continue to be remembered for ALL HIS CARING during his life
and I will continue to remember him in my prayers for him.
Family THANKS for putting the obituary in the St. Cloud Times!
George and I, along with Dennis Modracek and the late Bob Warner bunked together many times at band competitions, starting with the North American Brass Band Association competition in Asheville, NC in 1989. George was a fine musician, a very diligent band librarian and a good person and friend. The brass band family cherishes his memory.
I want to express my sympathy to Cindy,Tom,Brigid on their fathers death. I ran into George a couple times over the years in Iowa City and he was always very nice to meet and talk to cathching me up on your lives. Father Martin
I played in the Eastern Iowa Brass Band for many years with George. He was a very good person who will be greatly missed. I am sorry I will not be able to attend his funeral, but I will be there in spirit. He was a caring person and I will always remember him and the many conversations we had.
Sincere condolences on your loss. George was very welcoming to me (a new, young member) at the Old Capitol Chorus. In fact, we briefly sought to sing in a quartet together. The quartet never came to fruition, but I recall that he wanted to name it "The Scalawags." As chapter secretary, he signed my membership certificate for the Barbershop society, which hung on my walls for many years.
Thinking of all of you at this very difficult time. I did not know George but he sounds like a wonderful and interesting man. He did many things in his life and served in so many capacities as well as serving our wonderful Country.
I will always remember George's smiling face and that he was ever-ready to help with an answer to a cataloging question at the library. I also think of George every time I say the creed at Mass because he is the one who told me that it should be translated "I believe" rather than "we believe" several years before the Church updated the translation of the Mass. Now we all know that it should be "I believe!" My wife, Janet, and I were blessed to visit with George a few days before he died. He will always be remembered as a good friend!
Brigid: You are in my thoughts and heart as you grieve your Dad. The best parts of him live on in you and your children.
