Obituary of Robert L. Bush
Robert L. Bush, 86 of Iowa City passed away on August 24, 2006 from his earthly binds into the loving hands of our dear God, entering internal life. Bob passed peacefully, surrounded by the deep love of his family, friends near and far, and special friend Jon McPheron. Bob fought the final fight with class, dignity, and great courage. Memorial service will be October 13, 2006 at 1pm at First United Methodist Church in Iowa City, with reception in the Upper Room. Bobs family requests no flowers or gifts. Memorials may be made to Iowa City Hospice or Palitive Care at the Holden Cancer Center, UIHC in Iowa City. Memorials may be left at the church or sent to Jon McPheron at 220 E. Bloomington St. Iowa City, IA 52245 Bob enjoyed classical music, reading, cooking, friends and family, and watching sports on TV, Especially the Iowa Hawkeyes, Iowa State Cyclones, and the Chicago Cubs. Bob and special friend Jon Mcpheron enjoyed helping each other as advocates in Bobs loving household. Bob took Jon under his wing like a doting dad with true Christian love. Although not a regular church attendee, Bob enthusiastically supported Jon in his ministry efforts at First United Methodist Church. May the comfort of Bobs loving soul hold and comfort us all in this time of sorrow, and always! Bob studied music and business at the University of Iowa in the early 40s, working part time as a radio DJ at WSUI, West Music, and the Officers Club of the U.S. Naval Preflight School in Iowa City. After college he continued work at West Music and several downtown Iowa City retail outlets. Bob operated his own record store during the 70s. He also delivered the Des Moines Register in his neighborhood before working as a financial clerk at UIHC from 1978 until retiring in 1992. Bob was a life long member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. Bobs family includes his sister Dorothy Smith of Downey, CA, and nephews Richard Smith of Downey, Larry Smith (wife Debbie, great niece Kelly) of Placentia, CA; Niece Rhonda Simmons of Plattville, WI and great niece Niki ( and husband Adam) Abing; great niece Brittany Simmons, and great nephew Nate Simmons, all of Plattville; and nephew Alan Forbes of Cobb, WI; and niece Barbara Hilliard ( husband Steve) of Boisie, ID, and great nephews Jerad and Ryan Hilliard all of Boisie, many cousins, and special friend Jon McPheron of Iowa City. Bob was preceded in death by his Parents, Robert W. and Golda G. (Bolsinger) Bush, sister Shirley Joy Forbes and her husband Eugene Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City is caring for Bobs family and services.
