Obituary of John L. Schlote

John L. Schlote, age 79 of 1402 Plum Street, Iowa City died at his home on Friday, August 25, 2006. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 28, 2006, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, with burial at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. John LaVerne Schlote was born August 20, 1927 in Screibner, NE the son of Theodore and Kathryn (Dunn) Schlote. His family moved to this area where he attended Iowa City schools graduating from City High School. John served in the United States Air Force. John was united in marriage to Florence L. Divishek in June of 1952. For many years John worked for Rock Island Motor Transit retiring in 1980. Florence died October 21, 2003. His family includes his daughter, Penny Schlote of Iowa City, his son, Randy Schlote of Iowa City; brothers and their wives, , Ted and Lynn Schlote of Solon, and Steven and Sandy Schlote of Solon; a sister and her husband, Mary and Wilbur Nerad of Solon; and sister-in-law, Nancy Schlote of Coralville. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Florence, and brother, Dennis Schlote.. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City is caring for John’s family and his services.
