Obituary of Ruth Fern Vineyard

Ruth F. Vineyard, age 85 formerly of 500 2nd. Avenue, Iowa City died Friday, September 8, 2006, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 12, 2006, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City with burial at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Iowa City Senior Center. Ruth Fern Foster Vineyard was born July 21, 1921, near Bloomfield, Iowa the daughter of Leo and Lelia (Leyda) Foster. Following graduation from high school in Bloomfield, she married Lewis W. Vineyard on June 17, 1939 in Lancaster, MO. The couple moved to Iowa City in 1945, where she had worked for Kresge’s and later K-Mart for over thirty eight years retiring in 1988. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church which has become River Community Church in Iowa City, member of the Women of Moose, White Shrine – Bethlehem #8, and former member of the Daughters of the American Revolution-Nathaniel Fellows Chapter. Her family includes a son and his wife, Gene and Phyllis Vineyard of Iowa City; two daughters, Gloria Hoke and her husband, Russell of Cedar Rapids, and Gail O’Rear of North Liberty; daughter-in-law, Mary Vineyard of Iowa City, 15 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren, and step-great-grandchildren. Other family includes two brothers and their wives, Clifford and Mary Jane Foster of Bloomfield, IA, and Donald and Jeannie Foster of Arvada, CO; her sister, Alice Thomas of Denver, Co, and a brother-in-law, Everett Vineyard of Columbus Junction, IA. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Lewis; son, Glenn Vineyard, and a sister, Myra Beth Foster. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City is caring for Ruth’s family and her services.
