Obituary of Mildred L. Ferber

Mildred L. Ferber, age 93 formerly of 3416 Tulane Court, Iowa City died Sunday, September 10, 2006, at Bickford Cottage in Iowa City. A gathering for family and friends will be held from 4 to 6pm Friday, September 15, 2006, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Family services will be held prior to this time. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Mildred’s memory to Iowa City Hospice or the First United Methodist Church in Iowa City. Mildred Lucille Redmon Ferber was born October 13, 1912, in Ottumwa, Iowa the daughter of Harry and Grace (Dunne) Redmon. On September 22, 1931, she married Willard N. Ferber. Throughout Mildred’s life she has enjoyed working in a number of different jobs, in her youth in the grocery and hatchery business, later at a packing house, as a waitress, sales clerk, and as a bookkeeper. She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Iowa City and former member of the Moose Lodge. Her family includes a daughter and her husband, Joyce and Phil Leff of Iowa City; three grandchildren, Todd Leff and his wife, Nancy of Ann Arbor, MI, Missy Petrak and her husband, Mike of Boise, ID, and Adam Leff and his wife, Laura of Kent, OH; four great-grandchildren, Hannah, Nick, Ben and Amelia; sisters, Marvel McCarroll of Agency, IA, and Marilyn Wilson and her husband, Jack of Ashville, NC; sister-in-law, Carol Lee Redmon of Waterloo, IA; numerous nieces and nephews, and her great-grand dog, Arlo. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Willard, and three brothers, Max, Marvin, and M.Gene Redmon. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City is caring for Mildred’s family and her services.
