Obituary of Kenneth R. Piere, Sr.

Kenneth R. Piere, Sr. age 74 of 2100 Scott Blvd., Iowa City died Thursday, November 2, 2006, at his home following a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, November 6, 2006, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial with military honors will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 2 to 5pm Sunday at the funeral home. Kenneth Richard Piere was born September 6, 1932, in Iowa City the son of Roy and Ida Fern (Miller) Piere. He was united in marriage to Maxine Anne Ollerich on May 19, 1956, in Iowa City. For many years he worked in the Steam Shop of the University of Iowa before his retirement. Ken was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed bowling, loved his bass fishing, golfing, camping, and cheering on the Chicago Cubs. His family includes his wife of fifty years, Maxine; his children, Rosie (Mike) Graham of Iowa City, Kenneth Piere Jr. (Kathy) of North Liberty, Kim Prothroe of Orlando, FL, Roy Piere (Peg) of Iowa City, Karl Piere (Sara) of Parnell, Randy Piere (Deb) of Cedar Rapids, and Betty (Craig) Adams of Grinnell; 22 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Patricia Hartney of Iowa City. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Robyn Teresa Piere; and sister, Betty Krambeer.
