Obituary of Marjorie I. Rubin

Marjorie I. Rubin, age 87 of 1220 Village Road, Iowa City died Sunday, November 12, 2006, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m., Thursday, November 16, 2006, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Iowa City with the Reverend Robert Gebel officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Wednesday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service. Visitation will also be from 1pm until 2pm Friday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Springfield, IL, with graveside services to follow at the Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield. Memorial donations can be made in her memory to either on of these churches, or to the Lutheran Hour. On line condolences may be sent for her family through our website @www.gayandciha.com. Marjorie I. Yocum Rubin was born June 29, 1919, on the family farm near Sherman, IL, the youngest of eight children to Frank and Cora (Gregg) Yocum. Following graduation from high school in Williamsville, IL she attended and graduated from Springfield Hospital School of Nursing, Springfield, IL. Prior to her marriage, she worked at Springfield Memorial Hospital as a floor supervisor; she loved being a nurse!. She married Richard B. Rubin on January 19, 1945 in Springfield. The couple lived in Springfield for many years where they were members of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Richard died in 1984. Marjorie moved to Iowa City in 1999, to be nearer to her family. Here she was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. Her family includes two daughters, Linda Diggelmann and her husband, Henry of Iowa City, and Bonnie Rubin and her husband, Charles Williams of Iowa City; five grandchildren, Hank Diggelmann, Jennifer Wood and her husband, Philip, Lindsey Diggelmann, Richard Williams, and Ryan Williams; Marjorie’s brother, Frank Yocum of Sherman, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 3 sisters, and 3 brothers. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City is caring for Marjorie’s family and her services.
