Obituary of Vera A. Wood

Vera A. Wood, 90 of rural Iowa City, died Monday, October 3, 2016, at her home. Graveside services will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, October 6, 2016, at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. There will be a period of visitation one hour prior to the services at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in her memory to Meals On Wheels or Wickerpark Garden Club in Chicago, Il. Vera Amelia Gosenberg was born March 10, 1926, in Iowa City the daughter of Raymond A. and Amelia A. (Zimmerman) Gosenberg. She attending Iowa City Schools, graduating from City High School. On June 28, 1947, she was united in marriage to George H. Wood in the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Iowa City. The couple moved to what became their home for the rest of their lives north of Iowa City. Here Vera raised her family, enjoyed her gardens, cooking for others, and in recent years becoming a spectator of most any sports that she could watch. Her family includes her children, Douglas Wood, Deborah Wood and her husband, Richard Ellingson; David Wood and his wife, Peg; Daniel Wood, and Donald Wood; 2 grandchildren, Justin Wood and Jill Wood; and 2 great-grandchildren, Madison and Mackenzie. She was preceded in death by her husband, and a brother, Ervin Gosenberg.
