Arlene and Ken were good friends of my parents, Dr. Herbert E. and Betty Brown, when they lived in Columbia, MO in the late 1950s and early 1960s while Ken worked at the University of Missouri Medical Center and my father was an Anatomy Professor in the medical school. I remember that Arlene was a diabetic and was a model for managing the disease carefully. Considering her relatively long life, she obviously continued to be a model for diabetic care. She was a great lady.

It's been quite a while but I remember she was a nice person and she helped us with our Girl Scout projects. What I learned when my mother passed away

July 23, 2008 was you take one day at a time, you live for the memories and it shows your support system. You and your family and friends will be in my thoughts and prayers at this most difficult. What help me thru when my mother passed away was my faith, family, friends, and co-workers those were my support system.

After Glow I'd like the memory of me to be a happy one. I'd like to leave an after glow of smiles when life is done. I'd like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways, of happy times and laughing times, and bright and sunny days. I'd like the tears of those who grieve to dry before the sun of happy memories that I leave When life is done.

The Dash I read of a man who stood to speak at the funeral of a friend. He referred to the dates on her tombstone From the beginning to the end. He noted that first came the date of her birth And spoke the following date with tears, But he said what mattered most of all Was the dash between those years for that dash represents all the time that she spent alive on earth. And now only those who loved her know what that little line is worth. For it matters not how much we own; The cars, the house, the cash, what matters is how we live and love and how we spend our dash. So think about this long and hard. Are there things you'd like to change? For you never know how much time is left, that can still be rearranged. If we could just slow down enough To consider what's true and real and always try to understand the way other people feel. And be less quick to anger, and show appreciation more and love the people in our lives like we've never loved before. If we treat each other with respect, And more often wear a smile remembering that this special dash might only last a little while. So, when your eulogy is being read With your life's actions to rehash would you be proud of the things they say about how you spent your dash?

I met Arlene many years ago. through our husbands who were part of a small group of five Navy Reservists who got together socially to celebrate various happenings in the group. I thoroughly enjoyed their company throughout those years and then when I became a PEO I was initiated into the chapter Arlene was in. On Monday I was remembering a past St. Patrick's Day when we were invited to their home for an Irish dinner for which Arlene had made soda bread which was delicious (about 35 years ago). So I was shocked when I opened my computer on Tuesday and found she had passed while I was thinking of her. She was a dear person and I know you kids will miss her, but I'm sure she's happy, so be happy for her.

I worked with Dr. Dolan for several years in the Radiology Department. I discovered that when Arlene's mother passed away, that her father Louis was my father's (Leo Krejci) cousin. We drove past the family farm every Sunday on the way to church. My dad did custom farming for the family for several years. My condolences to the family.

I worked as a cleaning lady for Arlene for many years. She use to buy canned food, thinking there was never going be another sale, she had a pantry full of canned food a lot. She was a great lady, may she rest in peace.

Barbara and I are deeply saddened to learn of Arlene's passing. I can still remember the first time we came to Ken and Arlene's house for dinner and watched the family of raccoons came to the back sliding door eat the dog kibble that Ken and Arlene had put out for the them.
