Obituary of Howard Cole

Howard Cole, 76 of Iowa City died Friday, February 24, 2012, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 28, 2012, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be after 12 noon until services Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Howard's memory. Online condolences may be sent for his family through the web @ www.gayandciha.com. Howard was born July 9, 1935, in Sioux City, Iowa the son of Arthur and Cecil (Smothers) Cole. Here in Iowa City Howard was a volunteer at the Veterans Administration Hospital for years, worked at Goodwill and Reach for Your Potential, and so enjoyed Pathways. The Iowa Hawkeyes and the Chicago Cubs didn't have a more avid fan, and Howard loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and slipping inside to try his luck at the casino! His family includes his three siblings, Arlene Schuppan, Marian Lee, and Richard "Richie" Cole (Sandy) all of Iowa City, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Howard was preceded in death by his parents, 8 brothers and 4 sisters.
