Obituary of Jack V. Lenz

Jack V. Lenz, 78, of rural Lone Tree, died Friday, June 29, 2012, at the University of Iowa Hospitals. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 3, 2012, at the Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City with burial following at the Lone Tree Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jack Lenz Memorial Fund. Jack V. Lenz was born August 26, 1933, on the family farm north of Lone Tree; son of Vernon and Stella (Emmons) Lenz. He lived on the family farm most of his life, graduating from Lone Tree High in 1952. On January 29, 1955, he married Shirley Nicholas. For many years he farmed the family farm, operating his own grain truck but was also a skilled carpenter; having helped build the Old Capital Mall in downtown Iowa City. Jack was also an accomplished and well known trapshooter. He was a life member of the Iowa State Trapshooting Association, a delegate to the Amateur Trapshooting Association and part-owner of the Blue Wing Gun Club in Ft. Madison. With Shirley's support and companionship, they traveled many places and made many lasting friendships in their many years involved with trapshooting. When Jack didn't have a shotgun in his hand, he enjoyed time dancing with Shirley and spending time with family. His family includes his wife, Shirley; daughters, Julie Heiderscheit of Holy Cross, IA and Christine (Lynn) Miller of Walford, IA; grandchildren, Justin (Dawn) Neff, Jerilyn (Jared Garnant) Miller, Jessica Miller and Sabrina Heiderscheit; brothers-in-law, Bud (Eileen) Nicholas, Jim (Connie) Nicholas; sister-in-law, Myrta (Stan Woody) Stepanek, as well as several nieces and nephews. Jack was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Pat (Don) Brown, father-in-law, George Nicholas; mother-in-law, Lovern Kueneman, and step-father, Verne Kueneman.
