Sondra Lee Schnoebelen
1934 - 2012
Condolences
Dear Vern, Deb and Family,
I am so sorry to now be hearing of Sondra's passing. I personally have many fond memories of Sondra and I know the rest of my family had many, many good times with the Schnoebelens.
We used to go in with Sondra and Vern on garage sales at their home and I'll never forget the time Vern and my dad went to get burgers and Vern's ended up NOT having any meat in his burger. We laughed for years after that. Also, Sondra was a hoot looking over all the treasurers that folks brought to the sale and we'd laugh and giggle at some of the stuff that went fast!!!!
We had many connections as Deb and I were in school together (hugs to you, my friend) and I believe one of the boys bought a vehicle from my mom and dad.
Sondra was so comforting to me when my mother was ill and then after she passed away, and Sondra always reminded me of the good times she and mom had which helped lift my spirits. I'm sure the two are together again.
Sondra was a great woman and will be deeply missed by those whose hearts she touched.
May you all be held in God's comforting and loving arms during this time.
Deb (Gause) Borgstahl, daughter of Pat and David Gause
I am so very sorry your family's loss. I was a student at Horase Mann school many many years ago, and the one person I have always thought about after all these years is Mrs S. She was always there to greet each and every kid with a smile and a hug every morning. She will be in my heart forever and deeply missed.
To all the family,
Our sympathy on Sondra's passing. So long ago we were neighbors from Lucas school sharing our many happy times. She always was there to help with anything.
The Berry family, Carol, Dan, Dan,Jr, Brian, Deborah
The news of Sondra's death is very sad indeed. My heart goes out to Vern, Dan, Deb, and Jim and all of her grandchildren who she loved dearly.
She was a close friend and wonderful neighbor for many years.
As long as she was able, we exchanged news about our families after we left Iowa City in 2000. We always visited them when we returned.
She will be missed so much by family and friends.
I wish I were there to be with and see all.
Dear Schnoebelen family,
I often think of Highland Ave and all the people who lived there. You were the very best neighbors. I enjoyed the slide show. I will remember Sondra and her family in my prayers. My best to all of you.

To the Schnoebelen family,
I have good memories from the time we lived across from your family (on Highland Ave) barbeques, movies from a super 8 projector, playing hide and seek with all the neighborhood kids, etc. Most precious of all to me was Sondra sponsoring me for my confirmation at St. Mary's Church. I have thought of her often throughout the years and was saddened to learn of her passing. My prayers are with all of you at this time. May God's love comfort you.
To the entire Schnoebelen family;
I am so sad to have read the news about Sondra. I can and always will remember her working at Horace Mann School from when I was there from Kindergarten to 6th grade and many years after that... She was always there with her beautiful smile and always willing to help. I always remember her at the library check out and she never got mad if our books were late! :) She will be missed by many, she had touched so many peoples lives. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time. <3.>
We want to extend our sincere sympathies for your loss. May you always be comforted, Jim, knowing your mom had a good life filled with loving family and friends. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.
I was very sad and shocked to read that Mrs Schnoebelen had passed away. I attended elementary school at Horace Mann from Kindergarten all the way through 6th grade, (which was all the way back in 1986!) and I will never for get Mrs Schnoebelen. She was always so very nice to us and she and former Principal Mr Hovet did such a great job for Horace Mann! So glad to hear that she was able to do some traveling with her husband and got enjoy some Hawkeye games as well, she certainly was deserving of being able to enjoy her retirement!
I am saddened to hear of Sondra's passing. Sondra and I worked together for many years at Mann. Her love for family, friends, and children was so apparent in everything she did and said. You will be missed, Sondra!
Your family is in my thoughts and prayers. I have fond memories of the Schnoebelen's from our years as neighbors as well as running into Vern and Sondra around town. May your wonderful memories comfort you now and in the days ahead.
Vern, Deb and Family ... we are so very sorry. Wish we were in Iowa City to talk and tell you in person, but we're on our way to Phoenix for the winter. Do know that you are in our hearts and thoughts and prayers. Jack & Nola
