my deepest condolences to Austin and his family
Craig, Stacy, and family,
I am so sorry for your loss, I never got to meet Austin but I heard lots about him, and that he was an inspiring role-model and I wish I was able to meet him. I heard lots of great stories about him, and was so sad when I heard about him passing, #foreverwithflash RIP Flash you will always be remembered.
Craig, Stacey and Family.
I'm so very, very sorry to hear about Austin. I can truly say he had a huge impact on my outlook on life. I was so impressed with him at Brown Deer that day when he spoke to the whole crowd and was so positive and poised. I can't begin to even imagine what you're going through, but take comfort in the fact that you raised a child that had such a huge heart, and had such a positive effect on so many people. My sincere and heartfelt condolences.
We are deeply saddened by the loss of your son Austin. The fight was long and hard. Please take comfort in knowing that our thoughts and prayers are with your whole family.
I never met Austin but I have known his dad since high school - having competed against each other in four sports. We became good friends in college.
I have been following Austin's situation for most of the past year via Facebook. He and his family have demonstrated such grace and dignity. They have also displayed outstanding leadership. As an educator - teacher, coach, administrator - I really push kids to become better leaders. Austin's story is one I have shared with my "Leadership Class" that I teach and I will continue to share. We are all given opportunities and platforms where we can lead others. The Schroeder family's opportunity and platform was born out of an awful situation, but the manner in which they have conducted themselves in leading all of us - even those of us who never met Austin - is amazing.
May God bless the Schroeder family.
Rest in peace, young man.
I did not know Austin personally but heard of his struggle from his grandmother Twila at the Christian Women's Organization Luncheons. Wednesday I met three young North Liberty students. I think they said they attended Garner Elementary School. They were discussing how their class had honored him that day and that their older brothers had known Austin. Austin had made an impression on them at their young age. I had attended the Prayer Vigil held at the North Liberty Methodist Church and saw how the whole community had Austin in their prayers. May your love, memories, and faith comfort you now and in the future. Your son was special to many and will not be forgotten.
I only know "Flash" by name by hearing his story on KXIC and from my children.
One should never have to loose a child and I cannot imagine the heartbreak that you all feel. Heaven has gained a special angel.
He was a well loved child evidenced by the impact he had on so many.
Sending our deepest condolences to your family.
It is so hard to understand why a good kid like Flash was taken so young and that he had to endure such an ordeal. I have really struggled with God's plan - but then I also look at the impact that Flash had and will have on the community, and so many of his friends. I truly feel he made an impact that no one else would have been able to do. I try to find some peace in the fact that Flash was sent as a messenger - and a good messenger he was. So many good things have been said about how he faced his challenge and how he still was able to "Win the Day". A life lesson for all of us!! Our sympathy to you and your family
You will forever be in our hearts Flash as our hero! We love you buddy and can't wait to see you again! Thank you for smile, love, and legacy of what it means to love like Jesus!
You help us Win the Day now and forever!
Love, The Meskimens
It was an honor having Austin attend our fundraising event last year. He was such a bright light! Since that day, I've heard Dick Vitale mention Austin's name many times. He certainly left an impression on everyone who attended. Our sincerest thoughts and prayers are with the Schroeder family.
So pained to hear of your loss. The amazing, community-wide grieving and celebration of his spirit is a testament to the gift he was.
I was deeply saddened to learn of Flash's passing. I offer my condolences to the very many family, friends and to persons touched by him. Although I did not meet him personally, I feel that Flash has impacted more lives than most in their lifetime. It is apparent that, in addition to the strong community support and inspiration, the bond between Flash and his family has been uniquely strong. Having a brother with a similar condition, it is inspirational to have seen the strength and courage displayed by another.
I know that no words will take away the pain you are feeling. I do know the good Lord loves you and can carry you through this. Our hearts are very heavy. May God comfort you. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Thank you for the fight! You inspired thousands with your story and your life was full in a short time! Enjoy heaven AUSTIN!
I remember talking to Flash at a recent Iowa baseball game after he threw out the first pitch. I asked him how he was doing and he said - Isn't it a beautiful day. In the midst of alot of pain- he kept a positive spirit and was and will continue to be an inspiration to me and so many others each day. My son and your friend Nick pitched for you Flash at Iowa the day you went to heaven. I know you watched over him and he was proud to honor you that day with the sport you loved so much. Thank you for touching so many lives with your beautiful smile, positive spirit and love of life. I am sure it is a beautiful day in Heaven today and every day . May God Bless you.
Our thoughts and prayers are with us and all if your family. Nathan Kriegermeier went to school with Austin and thought do much of Austin. We moved to Dike IA. Austin was a very special person and will be missed.

We send our sympathy to your entire family. Though we did not know Austin personally we knew all about him through his loving grandparents Twila and Wayne. We know he was truly loved and that he was a fighter who loved life. He was in our hearts and prayers every day. Today he continues to be in our prayers. God bless your entire family.
Consider yourselves hugged.

Austin was a student at North Central Junior High where I teach. While he was not in my class, I'm just incredibly touched by how he has pulled a community together. He is held with so much care and regard. there is not a dry eye at North Central today. Even our 7th grade class is devastated. How many lives he touched. Everyone here has the most wonderful experience of Austin. He is truly loved.
