Obituary of Nathan Koch
Nathan Gregory Koch went to meet his Spirit in the Sky on Saturday, November 10, 2013. Nathan was born July 31, 1972, in Iowa City, the son of Donald and (Celia) Jean Koch. He lived his entire life in Iowa City, graduating from City High School in 1990 where he participated in concert choir, played saxophone in concert band, and lettered in diving. Nathan had a flair for drawing, especially working in chalk, and took a course at Kirkwood Community College. He married Nicole Schuur and they had a daughter, Maddyson, to whom he devoted his life.
Nathan was a spiritual man with a great love of the outdoors and was a minstrel at heart with a song to sing for any who chose to listen or join in with the raucous chorus. He was a craftsman and perfectionist in his chosen trade and worked for Iowa City and Corridor Drywall for over 15 years. He was a gentle soul. Material things never were important to him. His greatest gifts to his family, many friends and acquaintances were those of generosity and compassion, a truly caring man who always put the feelings and well-being of others before his own. His many interests included hiking, biking, RAGBRAI, spelunking, gaming, tobogganing and anything else that would let a 41 year old man play like a 12 year old boy. He loved his pumpkin patch and the pumpkins he produced for intricate carving at Halloween. He also enjoyed crafting igloos from giant piles of snow.
Nathan leaves behind his parents Don and Jean, brother, Kyle, sister, Amy, Nicole, and the shining star of his life and his self-proclaimed greatest accomplishment, his beloved daughter, Maddyson.
