Obituary of James R. Wenman

James R. “Jim” Wenman, 86, longtime resident of Coralville, died Sunday, May 22, 2016 at the Lone Tree Health Care Center. Memorial services will be held at 11 am Saturday, May 28, 2016, at the Coralville United Methodist Church where there will be a time of visitation one hour prior to the services. After the services a reception will be held in the fellowship hall of the church followed by graveside services at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Coralville. Military honors will be bestowed. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in Jim’s memory to Pioneer Park Village in Lone Tree or Volunteer Services at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics c/o University of Iowa Foundation James Richard Wenman was born October 29, 1929, in rural Tiffin, Iowa the son of Henry and Lora (Fulkerson) Wenman. He graduated from University High School in 1947, joined the Army and served during the Korean Conflict. On June 8, 1952 he was united in marriage to Virginia “Ginni” Edwards. The couple made their home in Coralville where they raised their two children. Jim worked for the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Maintenance and Construction Services, retiring after 39 years as the Director of Construction Services. Jim and Ginni were members of the Coralville United Methodist Church. In addition Jim was a member of the Coralville Volunteer Fire Department for many years, the American Legion, IOOF, The I Club, and enjoyed serving on numerous boards on the local level. Jim loved following the activities of his children and grandchildren. He was always an encouraging voice in the stands, provided enthusiastic applause at every performance, and was quick to share a hug and support in every endeavor. He never hesitated to help a friend or neighbor, humbly and quietly offering his many talents when needed. Jim was a kind and gentle man who will be remembered for his warm smile, friendly laugh, and the many songs shared with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Family left to cherish his memory includes his two children, Jim Wenman (Laura) of West Des Moines; Ginger Troughton (Rex Dawson) of Riverside; grandchildren, Lennie Troughton (Lisa), John Troughton (Christa), Kathleen Fiegan (Chad), Rachel Reinsvold (Michael), Katherine Wenman, and James Wenman; great-grandchildren, Sam, James, Kaylea, Ethan, Alex, Averi and Eddie; a sister, Frances Rogers; and a brother, Art Wenman. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, wives, Ginni (06/12/2003) and Sally (04/05/2013); brothers, Leroy, Lynn, and Robert Wenman; sisters, Laverne Flansburg, Stasha Jones, and Della Hartvigsen.
