Obituary of Russell L. Stutzman
Russell L. Stutzman, 82 longtime resident of Iowa City, died Monday, June 27, 2016, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon, Friday, July 1, 2016, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City where there will be visitation from 10:30 am until services on Friday. Burial with military honors will take place at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City.. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in Russell’s memory to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church at 2301 East Court Street, Iowa City, IA 52245.
Russell Lamont Stutzman was born July 15, 1933, in Broken Bow, NE, the son of Ralph and Elizabeth (Troyer) Stutzman. He married Shirley Mayfield on August 13, 1960, in Kahoka, Missouri. For many years he worked for Iowa Lumber Company, later working for DeWitt Electric before his retirement. He lived most of his life in the Iowa City area, until moving to be closer to his daughter after the floods of 2008. Russ enjoyed life, loved his family, breakfast at the Corner Café with his friends and of course the Packers!
His family includes his two children, Dawn Heritage (Edson) of Grimes, IA; Russell “Rusty” Stutzman (Aimee) of Holmen, WI; 5 grandchildren, Whitney Happel (Ryan), Sam Stutzman, Dani Heritage, Doug Heritage and Alex Stutzman; 2 great-grandchildren, Josie and Jaxson Happel; and his former wife, Shirley Stutzman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and 5 sisters, Lila Burkett, Lela Stutzman, Delores Marshall, AnnaBelle Stutzman, and Kathleen Stutzman; and 3 brothers, Richard, Alfred “Max”, and Ralph Stutzman.
