Benjamin C. "Ben" Huber
1937 - 2016
Condolences
God gave Uncle Ben many years. I have fond Iowa family memories from our family trips to Iowa and Uncle Ben's trips to California; wonderful times and laughs with Uncle Ben. Growing up, I always looked forward to going to Iowa and spending time with Iowa kinfolk, or I also was excited when any of them would come visit us in California. I felt so comfortable with Uncle Ben, as a kid you could tell and knew how much he loved kids and we had great fun with him. He was so down to earth, easy to be around, he's play with us, tickle us and tell us stories about when he, dad and their siblings were kids and the trouble some of them would get into. Uncle Ben loved his nieces and nephews.... I remember he would call me "Sooz". I remember going to Iowa and camping at Lake McBride, and all the Huber brothers around the fire, were reminiscing and laughing about all the childhood shenanigins they pulled. I remember his cute and sweet pug (dog) named "Flip". I remember watching a family softball game in Solon and rooting on the Huber kinfolk was on. I remember when he and Grandma Mildred came to Cal and we went to Knott's Berry Farm and he did some funny poses with Grandma and I. I remember decades later he came to Magalia to visit Mom and Dad, and helped Mom and Dad by organizing the garage even more than it was and hanging garden and outdoor tools on the garage wall. I remember big in town family reunion and picnic in Solon, and there being music and dancing. Though I always wished I had more times with my relatives in Iowa, I am so thankful for the times and memories God gave our family with them. I think of Ben now on Veterans Day, as I look at his picture above. Our deep sympathy, heartfelt prayers and thoughts were with the family when we were notified and continued. Thank you so much for telling us. Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with the extended Huber family. With many fond memories, and love, Susie "Sooz" (Huber) Alena - (Paul and Sandy Huber's youngest)
My mom Betty moved to Solon nursing home in April. One night the staff called me asking if she could have a beer - that a resident offered her one. She became friends with Ben after he shared his Busch beer. I always talked to him at the lunch table asking about the Cubbies. I was surprised and sad to hear he is gone and very sorry for your family. Although we barely knew him he was always kind to me and my mom.
