Obituary of Donald E. Slade

Donald E. “Tucker” Slade, 79, of Coralville, died Saturday, September 3, 2016 at the University of Iowa Hospital. A funeral service will be held 7 p.m., Friday, September 9th at the Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service where military rites will be rendered following the service. A time of visitation will be held prior to the service, from 4-7 p.m. also on Friday. Memorials in Tucker’s name may be directed to the Special Olympics or the Coralville American Legion. Online condolences may be shared with his family at www.gayandciha.com. Donald Earl Slade was born January 16, 1937, in Iowa City, Iowa; son of George H. and Edith (Teague) Slade. He graduated from U High with the class of ’55 and went onto serve in the U.S. Army from 1959-’62 and a few years later, on May 1, 1965, married Anita Enderle in West Liberty. He and Anita moved to Coralville after marriage, where they would raise their family and still reside today. He worked for many years as a computer programmer, for both Westinghouse and Seaburg & Smith, until retiring in 1999. In his younger years Tucker was known in the area for his fast pitch pitching, pitching for many local teams. He also enjoyed bowling, playing cards, his trips to the casino, and was a very loyal Cubs and Hawkeye Fan; Most of all, Tucker, loved being grandpa! Tucker had also been a long-time member, and active part of the Coralville American Legion for many years. His family includes his wife, Anita; children, Deanna Dicken (Brandon), Tricia Slade (Kris Duncan) and Tony Slade (Camille); grandchildren, Keily Slade, Kelsey Christiaansen, Jack, Cameron, Anthony and Lewis Slade; great-grandchildren, Trey Christiaansen and Paige Black; and his siblings, Richard, Bob, Mike and David Slade and Shirley Slade Lesher. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Kenny, Russell, Raymond, Danny and Billy and his nephew, Steve.
