Obituary of Mary Belle Brandstatter
Mary Belle Brandstatter died peacefully Thursday, April 10, 2014, at Mercy Hospital Hospice Center in Iowa City.
Funeral services will be held at 3pm Sunday, April 13, 2014, at the First Christian Church in Coralville. There will be a time of visitation from 1pm Sunday until the time of the service at the church. Burial will be at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Coralville. Mary Belle was born September 25, 1923, in Iowa City, to Leslie Green and wife Alma (Swanson) Green, both of Lone Tree. Belle was raised in Muscatine with her siblings, John, James, Marie (Hallowell), Rose (Rummery), and Vera (Garvin).
After graduating from Muscatine High School in 1940, she became a licensed Beautician. During WWII she worked in a USO 'Canteen' in San Diego, as the soldiers and sailors were deployed. After WWII she returned to Iowa City where she was a beautician at Blackstone Salon for many years.
She married J. Erwin, "Brandy" Brandstatter on June 16, 1946, in the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They made their home in Coralville and were the parents of two boys, Rex (Michele) of Coralville, and Rox (Pam) of Cedar Rapids.
Belle and Brandy were the founders and longtime owners of Brandy's Vacuum Sales and Service in Coralville from 1969, until retiring in 1982. She was a lifetime member of the First Christian Church in Muscatine and Iowa City.
She is survived by her sons, Rex and Rox, and their wives, grandson Joe (Katie) and granddaughter Molly; two great- grandsons, Kaleb and Karson; and her two sisters, Rose Rummery and Vera Garvin. She was preceded in death by her, husband, parents, siblings John, James, and Marie Hallowell.
