She has worked in various jobs over the years, at Bill Zuber's Restaurant in Homestead, Amana Refrigeration for many years, and in Dietary Department on the Oakdale Campus of the University of Iowa. Her family loved her cooking, canning, baking, and traveling with them. While working at the University she developed a "liking" for the men's basketball team, often serving their meals to them while they attended here.
In her years living in Oxford she fondly remembered playing on the girl's basketball team in High School. She was proud to have been the church organist of the former Zion Lutheran Church in Oxford, and upon its closing she became a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Iowa City.
Her family includes her three children, John "Jack" Kahler Jr. (Joan) of Tiffin; Naomi Nearad (Richard) of Swisher, and Arlene Gerard (John) of North Liberty; son-in-law Joe Prymek of Oxford; 19 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
