Obituary of Josephine H. Fulton

Josephine H. "Jo" Fulton, 92, lifetime resident of this area, died Tuesday, November 3, 2015, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held at 10am Friday, November 6, 2015, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, with burial to follow at the Downey Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm Thursday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Jo's memory. Josephine Hazel Ball was born May 8, 1923, in rural Johnson County, Iowa the daughter of John Edgar and Mary Estella (Austin) Ball. Jo married Charles F. "Chuck" Fulton on April 6, 1946, here in Iowa City. She worked for the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for 32 years, retiring as the supervisor of the EKG lab. After retirement Jo and Chuck worked at Federal and State Parks as gate keepers through the US. In her later years Jo and her daughter started a craft business sewing American Girl Doll Clothes. She was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, enjoying the Quilting Group and the Wednesday Ladies Lunch groups. Jo loved the outdoors, camping and fishing with her family; tending to her garden and flowers, she enjoyed going to family reunions catching up with other family members, was known for her excellent cooking, and sewing skills! Jo's family includes her two children, Sandra Jo Jirsa and Charles Fulton (Terri) all of Iowa City; grandchildren, Tiffani and Jason Fulton; sister, Dorothy Justice of Ft. Worth, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 8 sisters.
