Obituary of Jerald L. Dains

Jerald L. “Jerry” Dains, age 56 of Iowa City died Sunday, July 19, 2020, at University of Iowa Hospitals. There will be a private family service at a later date. Jerry was born February 22, 1964 in Iowa City to Ken and Sally Dains. Ken was a coach in the Iowa City School district and the two shared a love of all things athletic. Jerry was a natural athlete and spent many years playing football and tennis. He was a gifted gymnast and walked on his hands as easily as he did on his feet. His love of sports also includes the Hawkeyes and Cardinals baseball. Finally getting to see the Chief’s win a Superbowl was cause for great celebration! Jerry’s greatest joy and source of pride are his two children Callie and Mason. Time spent with them brought him tremendous happiness. Jerry attended the University of Iowa and spent many years working for Hy-Vee in different positions. It was at Hy-Vee he made many lifelong friends. He also worked at University of Iowa Hospitals in patient transport. His clients enjoyed his easygoing manner and sense of humor. He is survived by his children, Callie Dains (Ethan) and Mason Dains; siblings, Max Dains (Carolyn), Jeff Dains (Angie), Carrie Brown (Mike) and Rob Dains; Jerry’s former wife, Jodie Dains-Swailes; nieces and nephews, Heidi, Sarah, Max, Parker, Griffin, Molly, Luke, and Quinn. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents.
