Obituary of Scott Alan Miller

Scott A. Miller, age 51 of Shawnee, KS formerly of Iowa City died Thursday, August 27, 2020. Visitation will be held from 2 to 6 pm Tuesday, September 1st. at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service. Graveside services will be held at 11am Wednesday at the Ridgewood Cemetery in North Liberty. Scott Alan Miller was born August 22, 1969, in Iowa City, Iowa the son of George R. “Dick” and Sherrel (Vest) Miller. He attended schools in the Iowa City Community School District, graduating from West High School. Scott was united in marriage to Kayla Marie Cole on May 21, 2010, in Iowa City. He has spent most of his adult working career as an Iowa City Policeman and most recently as a manager with Durham School Services and DS Bus Lines. Scott enjoyed watching Iowa Hawkeye Football, baseball, basketball, Broncos football and Cardinals baseball. Scott enjoyed playing baseball, softball, golf, basketball and football. Scott enjoyed grilling with family, watching movies, the Wiggles and every Disney movie every made, nerf gun wars, riding his motorcycle, eating pickle rolls, taking Kadie swimming, mowing the lawn, sharing his Oreo cookie blizzards from Dairy Queen with Kadie, being a police officer, going to concerts and traveling on vacations with his family. Scott was gifted with athleticism, any sport he put his mind to he could do and he did it well. He enjoyed spending time with family, friends, his dogs and loved his kids and being a grandpa. His family includes his wife, Kayla; children, Alec Miller (Maxi), Rachel Holt (Anthony),Marissa Miller, Joshua Miller and Jamie Hayes; grandchildren, Noelle, Tobias, Zeke and Zelda Rose; Scott’s parents, Dick and Sherrel Miller; sister, Deb Reese (Scott); nieces, Savannah and Makayla Reese; nephew, Ryan Reese; mother-in-law, Kay Ann Schroeder (Joel); and Scott’s most recent four legged best friend, Kadie. Scott was preceded in death by his grandparents, George and Frances Miller and Chuck and Viola Vest. “Social distancing standards will be in place along with the expectation of all in attendance will be expected to wear a mask. If you arrive without one will be provided to you by the funeral home. Thank you for supporting Scott’s family with your presence and being conscientious in doing so.”
